Quirks and Rituals

I have a few rituals when it comes to writing. To begin, the writing rituals that I have for process papers are that I need to write in a quiet place that does not have many distractions. I am the person that gets distracted when they hear a buzz or see a fly passing by. Usually I tend to write at night because that is when I can concentrate the best in my writing, and when I obtain the best ideas and inspiration. I also like to snack while I write because the writing process makes me really hungry. Cheesy Cheetos, peanut butter pretzels, chocolate, and fruits especially bananas are my favorite snacks to eat while writing. Water is the only drink that I have while writing because I have to stay hydrated. Finally, the last ritual that I do is that I place my phone somewhere far away from me while I am writing to fully concentrate.

When it comes to timed writes, one ritual that I have is that I write the beginning and ending time to pace myself as I write. I do not want to spend most of the time in one part of the essay because then I will not be able to finish it. Another ritual that I have is that I like to take three deep breaths before I begin writing. The final ritual that I have for timed writes is that I have water to drink because I usually get thirsty when I am writing.

I Am a Writer

I would describe myself as a writer who needs a lot of improvement in many areas. As my essay scores and feedback from past years show, I have to work on many things including developing my ideas. Writing has never been an easy task for me, especially since English is not my first language. Since the day that I stepped into kindergarten to now, writing has always been a challenge, but I am ready to improve my writing and become a better writer.

Overall, I mostly write assigned essays for a certain class and a lot of lab reports for the different science classes that I have taken. I am not the person who writes beyond the classroom other than for homework assignments because I have never found interest in it, and I can never seem to find something to write about. Whenever I attempt to write in my free time, I never find something to write about which leads me to stop because I get frustrated, and I feel as if I am being unproductive and wasting my time. When I actually seem to write something out, it sounds like gibberish so I throw it away. I always seem to have a writer’s block whenever I try to write in my free time.

Moreover, I believe that writing is fairly important because it is a way of communication, and a way to express ideas or feelings. Additionally, every book or story begins with somebody writing it, and I really enjoy reading books. As for my most memorable experiences with writing, I have to admit that I do not have many, but one of them was probably when I got a participation certificate for participating in a short story competition. I did not win, but I had fun participating especially because I had no clue I was participating.

To conclude, although writing has always been a difficult task for me, I am positive that I can improve and become a better writer.
